MATCH LAKES

It had been Three long years from the time we had bought the land at Mawgan Porth, To the Application to Introduce our Carp, in the new lake. 27.5.2003, The Carp were just 1" long from mouth to tail, & there was 10.000 of them, I remenber cupping my hands together & puting my hands in the tank, to see how many I could hold, there was six flapping in the water in my hands, I took them to the waters edge, & wished them luck as I let them swim out of my hands, the first six fish, We carryed the rest in buckets. We fed them halibut pellets for six months, to help them grow, then carp pellet for six months, then back on to halibut pellets again, 16 months later and there weight was up to 8ozs. Consent had been Granted to introduce 250lb Tench weighing between 12ozs & 2Lbs-8ozs, along with 250lb Bream weighing 8ozs, while we waited for the fish to grow, I built the pegs. There are 47 pegs on this Lake. Then we opened in 2004.

SPECIMEN POOL

We call this Horse Shoe Pool, (because of the Shape). The large Mirror & Common Carp have been put in here when they weighed 6Lbs, the larges fish is now 16Lbs 8oz. There are 11 pegs on this Pool. There are a variety of fish in this pool, blue golden orf, Tench, Rudd, Bream & common, mirror & linear carp. ..........We have Two very special Specimen fish in the Pool, She a 6lb Orange Carp, with the Reddish eyes you ever seen, & a 7lb going on 8lb Tench with only one eye, He has never had two eyes, just a plane face on his right side, He is called Nelson off coarse.

THE SHAPE OF THE POOL & LAKE

The shape of the Match Lake reflects its intended informality not only for the fisherman but also for the existing & proposed Trees Flora & Fauna, The size of the Lake is 1.5 acres, the depth of the Lake varys but at a Maximum of approximately 3 metres. The margins are gently sloping in order to encourage bankside & shallow water vegetation; The Lake is filled utilising Natural under ground Spring water, we have five Springs that constantly are flowing into the lakes. Now that the vegitation is well astablished the wildlife has improved.

THE REASON FOR WANTING TO OPEN A DISABLED FISHING FAILITY.C

People often ask me why a fishing lake. The reason Stems from my love for my step father, and my personal need to help people. My step father Roger Noble was a very intelligent man, but after he had a heart attack he was left wheel chair bound. He dreamed of spending long days fishing on the land he had grown so fond of, but sadly died before he could live out his dreams. We have planted a tree in his memory so he can still sit there and watch over his favorite place. Finding a place for the disabled angler was difficult at that time, and I decided to provide a facility for all.
